OKONOMIYAKI (Japanese Pizza)


Okonomiyaki- Also known as Japanese Pizza
(Osaka style vegetable/seafood pancake)

1/4 lb. fatty pork, or bacon, chopped very small.
1/4 lb. shrimp, chopped*
1/4 head large green cabbage, chopped into 1/2 inch squares
1/2 bunch green onions, sliced (include green tops)
*(You can add or substitute other firm seafood, ie clams, calamari, scallops)

Mix together in a large bowl, then add:
1 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt

Stir to coat the vegetable/seafood mix. 

Then add: 
3 eggs,
1 cup water
Stir to coat, and the mix becomes batter like (Add more water/flour, as needed)


Heat griddle to 350 or 375 degrees. (What you use for pancakes)
Scoop up 1 to 1-1/2 cups of mix and put on griddle.  Smooth it into a pancake shape.  
Fry for about 5-7 minutes, then flip, using 2 spatulas, and fry on the second side, until meat is cooked, and browned.  

Serve okonomiyaki on a plate with:
Kansai Okonomi Sauce (in squeeze bottle) drizzled over the top.  (Can also use Japanese Fruit and Vegetable sauce, if you can't find Okonomi sauce)

Kewpie Mayonnaise (Japanese Mayo in squeeze bottle) drizzled over top of that.
Bonita shaved flakes (Sprinkled over all)
Finished okonomiyaki!  Watch the bonita flakes "DANCE" on top.
Serve along side sticky rice, and cut and eat with chopsticks.
